The Role of Missionary Work in the Church of Latter-Day Saints

An accomplished executive and entrepreneur, Kenneth Brailsford also stands out as an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Previously serving as a full-time missionary for the church in the former West Germany and in both Atlanta and Columbia, South Carolina, Kenneth Brailsford now volunteers as a temple worker.

Inspired by Biblical teachings, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints encourages each of its members to perform missionary work. The church points out that the Gospel of Matthew urges all followers of God to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to as many other souls as possible. Furthermore, the church believes that a revelation given to Joseph Smith the Prophet states that believers must carry the gospel to all nations and peoples on Earth. This belief has in turn become part of the church’s official Doctrine and Covenants.

For these reasons, the Church of Latter-Day Saints expects all young males to prepare for full-time missionary service. In doing so, they give all people a chance to hear the revised gospel and turn to God for forgiveness and acceptance. The church also encourages those not on full-time missions to spread the gospel to their neighbors and demonstrate the fulfilled life that one can lead by sharing in gospel teachings.
